Be On a Graduate Committee!
Among the many functions of the University of Texas Graduate Student Assembly is the appointment of graduate students to serve on committees around campus to ensure that graduate needs are being met. The general responsibilities of a committee appointment are as follows:
- Attendance at all committee meetings and an active representation of graduate student interests. Most committees meet on a monthly basis, and are generally catered to the schedules of the individual members as much as is reasonably possible.
- Attendance at a Graduate Student Assembly General Body Meeting at least once per month to present a report on your committee. If you cannot attend the meeting due to a class conflict, a written report submitted monthly (or however often your committee meets if it meets less than once a month) will be sufficient.
We seek a diverse body of individuals who are committed to representing the needs of the graduate student body in several others. Participation on a committee allows you to effect the changes you find important for grad students, to build your CV, to work with a diverse group of professionals, and gain valuable work experience.
Please send all inquires and applications directly to Paul Tchir, Graduate Student Assembly Vice-President Internal, at cptchir@mail.utexas.edu. In your application, please include a brief personal statement indicating why you wish to serve on the committee, any particular issues that you are personally interested in and anything else that you feel might be important for us to know. If you feel that a resume or CV would be more informative or helpful, you may send that as well/instead. No individual will be appointed to more than one committee, but they may apply and be considered for as many as they choose.
