Our Mission
Who We Are:
The Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) is the elected governing body of The University of Texas' approximately 12,000 students. GSA is one of three elected student leadership organizations at UT, including Student Government and the Senate of College Councils. GSA reports to the Vice-Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies and is considered an official element of the UT administrative structure.
GSA is the principal body for the representation of graduate student interests on campus. Members serve on a variety of important committees across campus to ensure that graduate issues are being communicated and addressed.
What We Hope to Do:
- GSA hopes to:
- Gather graduate voice in an effort to determine current issues that impact graduates at The University of Texas
- Provide a deliberative forum for graduate students to discuss and act upon graduate issues and related policies.
- Establish an open line of communication between University administration, specific colleges and graduate students.
- Collaborate with Graduate School administration, and the University's central administration to help shape policy in a way that is cognizant of graduate student needs.
GSA 2008-2009 Hot Topics:
- This year GSA is working specifically to:
- Encourage active participation in graduate student governance by graduate students themselves.
- Address a variety of issues concerning graduate student funding.
- Work with University of Texas administration and Board of Regents to adequately address the desire for additional and centrally located graduate housing.
- Inform Texas Legislators about higher education issues that impact graduate students.
- Continue advocating for a more robust graduate statistics offering.
- Promote graduate student research.
- Celebrate graduate student accomplishments.
